Our Solution

L!ftOff’s device comprises of a segmented inflatable seat, portable carbon dioxide canisters, and a user-controlled inflation mechanism that aids the user during STS.

This is a graph of the torque about the knee as the user stands up. The area under the graph measures the total energy expenditure required for the user from sitting to standing. The pink region is the amount of energy that L!ftOff will expend in place of the user and the red region shows the amount of energy expended by the user. With L!ftOff the user saves up to 73% of their energy!

This graph shows the amount of muscle activation as measured by an EMG. The muscle observed is the vasuts medialis which is the most highly activated and used muscle during the sit to stand motion int he knee. The black line shows the amount of activiation without the device and the red line shows the amount of muscle activation with the device. Comparing the maximum peaks for both, the experiment shows that L!ftOff decreases user muscle activation by up to 80%!
